Kyrgyzstan and Russia to resume cooperation in the field of hydropower
Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Gulnara-Klara Samat in Moscow met with Deputy General Director for Project Engineering and International Cooperation of PJSC RusHydro Sergei Machekhin. The main topic of discussion was the possibility of further participation of Russian companies in the implementation of hydropower projects in the republic. This was reported by the Vecherniy Bishkek news agency.
The parties stressed the need to develop the potential of Kyrgyzstan in the field of hydropower to increase capacity and generate electricity. They considered promising areas of cooperation through the RusHydro group of companies and discussed current issues related to the republic’s hydroelectric power plants.
The interlocutors also touched upon the formation of a bilateral working group, the exchange of delegations of specialists and the organization of internships for Kyrgyz hydropower workers in the Russian Federation in order to study modern technologies in this area.
At the end of the talks, the Russian side expressed its readiness to work together within the framework of the agreements and taking into account the observance of all necessary environmental standards and requirements.
Note that in 2016, the Kyrgyz authorities unilaterally terminated agreements with Russia on the joint implementation of a number of hydropower projects, in connection with which design, survey, construction and installation work was suspended.
